Cliff Diving

The game was

he’d leap

headlong

from the cliff

assuming positions

I had to mimic

arched back into

stainless waters

swallowing his

hollowed body

pristine form

open for that

cresting night

boy with loose wings

reaching over

his fall from

his arms

lofty peaks

calmly unwrapped

breaking the quiet

while he tumbled

into pieces

all too fast

for me to see

there was

my shadow

inside his

hands his

chest a great

swelling goodbye

edging breathless

to his girl whose

whine broke

heart beats more

in his smile

with each step over

Series 3

J. Adam Collins and Claire Krueger

A dialogue in poetry and video, Series 3 examines a schism of self. J Adam Collins and Claire Krueger play with juvenile memories, given the tests of time and perspective. Everyone molds their self at least some from these fragments, and at times alter their perception of a memory with the weight of hindsight. What one becomes is not always what one expected, but then again, were expectations ever what was really thought?

Ding Dong Ditch

What I can’t remember

is the feeling of having

just missed each other

in the middle of the night

they can’t find me

and

I am hiding bent in broken

willow branches choking

 on laughter—morning breaks

and

mends in much the same way

they are talking like nothing

happened like a hive smoked

out but working no matter

how many times I ring

for blocks houses are empty

    and

still next to your open windows

the smell of bacon at the door with

the television on but no answer

Dress Up

when I played

the weather-

man you were

the news

.

anchor

dressed up in tweed

with all this space

to grow into

.

all I wanted

was control

of the hours

we had left

.

and the clouds

that held us

in your room

when you said

 .

what if we just

never get jobs

you could move in

one day I could

 .

stay here until I

fit in this suit

then I asked what

if it never stops

.

raining until we’re older

we could pass

the time guessing

how long it would take

Chinese Fire Drill

By the time he knew the way he knew

it wasn’t the way we wanted to be

going for miles without a map

we weren’t sweating the small stuff any

more times than not he went right into it

not even a word for what might be left

between us he’d say I like going fast

and hard to nowhere does it matter how

in the end we couldn’t even finish

a single song without changing our minds.
